Lands of Smiles: Las tierras de las Sonrisas: Europe

El jueves nos levantamos tempranito porque solo teníamos hasta el mediodía para recorrer la ciudad del Vaticano. Llegamos a la Basílica de San Pedro cerca de las 9 de la mañana. Entramos tranquilos ya que todavía no había fila, y disfrutamos de la Basílica casi entera para nosotros. Subimos hasta la cúpula y la verdad que fue una de las escaleras más complicadas que hemos subido... y eso que nosotros subimos muchas escaleras... Cuando salíamos, una hora después, vimos una tremenda fila y pensamos: ¿para dónde será? Estábamos con miedo de que fuera para los Museos Vaticanos, adonde íbamos. Pero no, era la fila para entrar a la Basílica. Había un grupo de gente de seguridad cerrando un sector de la plaza con cintas, así que nos imaginamos que el papa estaba por venir. Lamentablemente, estábamos complicados de tiempo, así que seguimos caminando hacia los museos Vaticanos. Cuando llegamos no había casi fila, en 10 minutos estábamos adentro caminando por las distintas salas y museos dentro del complejo. Pasamos por el museo etnológico, y varios más, hasta llegar al fondo y en un mar de gente a la Capilla Sixtina. Por supuesto, no se permite sacar fotos dentro de la Capilla Sixtina, aunque había varios desubicados con celulares.. Precioso. Nada que ver con lo que esperaba ver.. De ahí emprendimos el regreso rápido hasta la terminal de trenes, desde donde salimos hacia Florencia al mediodía, y para la tardecita estábamos de nuevo en la casa de la familia Galarza.

On Thursday we got up early because we only had time until noon to see everything we wanted in the Vatican city. We arrived at St. Peter´s Basilica around 9am. We got in with no problem, there wasn´t even a queue, and we could enjoy the Basilica almost only for ourselves. We went up to the top of the dome and it was actually one of the most difficult stairs we have climbed so far... and we climb a lot of stairs... When we were coming out, an hour later, we saw a huge line and thought, For which place it is? We were afraid it could be for the Vatican Museums, where we wanted to go next. But it was the line to enter the Basilica. There was a group of segurity people closing an area of the Square, so we imagined the Pope was about to arrive.. Sadly, we were in a hurry so we just kept walking towards the Vatican Museums. Again, there was no waiting line and in 10 minutes we were inside the Museum complex, walking around different museums. We enjoyed the ethnological museum, and some others on our way to the Sistine Chapel, which is the last one. It was really crowded. Of course, you are not allowed to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel, although there were some snapping pictures with their cell phones.. I hate that... Anyway, the Chapel is amazing.. Not at all what I expected though. From there we went back quickly to the train station, where at noon we took our train back to Florence. In the evening we were once again at the Galarza´s.
